Federal Chifley MP Ed Husic last week used Parliament to remember former Integral Energy CEO Richard Powis who passed away on Sunday 26 May.
Mr Husic, who worked with Mr Powis at Integral Energy (now known as Endeavour Energy) from 2000 to 2004, said Mr Powis spearheaded efforts to improve the ageing electricity network in Western Sydney and the Illawarra.
“As I said in Parliament, I was humbled to work with Richard, admiring foremost his integrity, his sharp mind and lateral approach to conquering difficulty.
“Richard took up the CEO role at a time when Integral Energy was weighed down by doubts about its future – but he helped restore its financial success, in part by fashioning an ethical culture within the corporation.
“He was deeply committed to employee safety, to lifting apprentice numbers and finding ways to continually improve the quality of service to Western Sydney residents and businesses,” Mr Husic said.
Mr Powis left Integral Energy in early 2008, becoming CEO at superannuation group FuturePlus.
Last year, at 60, Richard decided to spend more time with family and savour his passion for sailing.
“I was deeply saddened to learn that he passed away suddenly.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.
“Thank you for your service, Richard Powis.”
