NO CURFEW FOR BADGERYS CREEK AIRPORT: WESTERN SYDNEY TREATED AS SECOND CLASS

07 May 2015

Western Sydney should be outraged the Abbott Government is refusing to protect residents quality of life by having a curfew on Badgerys Creek Airport said Chifley MP Ed Husic.
Last Friday the Abbott Government told Western Sydney it wouldnt get the same protection of a curfew as enjoyed by residents living around Sydney Airport. It also admitted planes could be taking off from a future Badgerys Creek Airport as early as 2am every day.
Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey maintain a curfew on Sydney Airport to protect their constituents, but they disgracefully believe Western Sydney residents dont deserve the same, Mr Husic said.
So in the city of Sydney there will be two airports with residents around one airport enjoying protection but those living in one of the fastest growing regions in the country getting none.
Youd hardly expect the curfew around Sydney Airport to be lifted, so why force Western Sydney residents to cop aircraft movements 24 hours a day? Mr Husic asked.
In lamely defending their decision, the Abbott Government claims modern aircraft are quieter so a curfew isnt necessary for Western Sydney but if thats so, why are they keeping a curfew on Sydney Airport?
Not only did Tony Abbott mislead Western Sydney about whether he planned to build an airport at Badgerys Creek if elected but he didnt have the courage to let residents know before they voted that they would get a 24 hour a day airport if he became Prime Minister.
Again, the Abbott Government fails to be up-front with the people of Western Sydney about the true impact of this airport and continues to hurt them along the way.
