$129,000 of new Volunteer Grants in Chifley

Federal Member for Chifley, Roger Price today announced that 37 local organisations will receive $129,000 funding to support their volunteers.

The local community organisations are sharing in $21 million in volunteer grants delivered across the country by the Gillard Government.

37 local organisations will receive grants of between $1000 and $5000 to cover the cost of petrol and purchase much-needed equipment such as computers, barbecues, air conditioners and refrigerators.

Some local organisations have also received grants to help meet the costs of training their volunteers and completing police and background checks.

“Volunteers are the backbone of so many of our community groups,” Mr Price said.

“Every day they are out in our community, giving their time, expertise and understanding to help people in need, protect the environment and enrich our sporting and cultural life.”

Labor Candidate for Chifley, Ed Husic welcomed the funding boost and said it would make a real difference to local volunteers.

“The contribution these local organisations make to our community should never be underestimated,” Mr Husic said.

“The Gillard Government values the enormous contribution volunteers make and this funding will help ease the financial pressure on community organisations throughout our local area.”
