Arndell Park Clinic to benefit from Federal Government funding

Access to after-hours healthcare should become easier for residents in South Blacktown and Arndell Park following the announcement of an Australian Government primary care infrastructure grant for the area.

The Government will provide $300,000 to Synergy Medical Centre at Arndell Park to modify their premises to help boost their ability to provide patients with greater after-hours help.

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic said this money will more than double the capacity of the Synergy Medical Centre in an area where it can sometimes be difficult to arrange an out of hours consultation with a GP.

“Synergy Medical Centre will be able to increase their service from two GPs to four and extend and maintain after hours services,” Mr Husic said.

“The centre is already open from 8am until 7pm but this will allow them to extend that to half day Saturday.”

Synergy Medical Centre currently provides a podiatrist, psychologist, and dietician once a week, all sharing the one room.

Extending the present one room to three will triple the capacity to provide these services.

“This is great news for residents in and around Arndell Park as it will mean patients will soon be able to access a wider range of services at these clinics,” said Mr Husic.

This announcement comes on the back of significant health spending locally, which has been the focus nationally.

In her address to the National Press Club last week, Health Minister Nicola Roxon devoted a good portion of her speech to the Gillard Government’s spending on Health in Western Sydney.

“This demonstrates that the Government is aware of the need for improved services throughout Sydney’s west, particularly as more people make this area their home,” Mr Husic said.
