Happy Australia Day everyone.
Today's a great opportunity for Australians across the country to celebrate our achievements as a nation.
Every year Australians recognise the contribution of citizens in the community and this year, 325 special ceremonies will be held across the country with nearly 100 ceremonies across New South Wales.
Later today I'll join Blacktown City Mayor, Councillors, the Federal MP for Greenway Michelle Rowland and special guests, Australia Day Ambassador - Mr Todd Greenberg OAM and Mr Eddie Piccinin – Manager Woolworths for Blacktown City Council's Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony in Bowman Hall, Campbell Street, Blacktown.
Congratulations to all those people in our community who continue to make a difference in the community - from the traditional custodians of our land to our newest citizens who enrich our nation.
In Chifley we are lucky to have a vibrant and diverse community and on Australia we have the opportunity to celebrate in local gatherings, festivals, barbeques and ceremonies across the electorate.
This year in particular, we reflect on the strong sense of community spirit and the willingness to lend a helping hand in time of need such as those who helped those affected by the recent floods and continue to assist with the flood recovery effort.
In the Chifley community, the Australian spirit is captured in our sense of pride seen through our respect for the land and a belief in a fair go to pass on to many generations to come. I wish everyone a safe and happy Australia day celebration amongst friends, neighbours and family.
Local events and commemorations will be held in the electorate such as Blacktown City Council's annual Australia Day Celebrations on The Rooty Hill and all members of the community are encouraged to participate and attend.
Hope you and your family have a terrific day.
