Election about choice

Chifley MP Ed Husic has welcomed the announcement that Australia will go to the polls on Saturday 14 September.

“From the first day in the job after being elected as MP, I’ve made it my priority to stick up for the people of our area, to get things done for residents,” Mr Husic said.

“Regardless of whether it’s a Labor Government or Liberal Government, I’ve stood up for our neighbourhoods to make sure we get a better deal for schools, healthcare and seeing us get the NBN quicker than most parts of Sydney.

“Residents now have a choice as to who has the experience and commitment to get things done for Chifley.

“Having grown up in this area and now raising a family here, I’ve always wanted to put something back into the Chifley electorate – and it’s this commitment I take to the 2013 election.

  • “That’s why I fought for suburbs affected by graffiti and anti-social behaviour, such as in Rooty Hill and Doonside.

  • “It’s why I fought hard within government for Woodcroft and Doonside to get better broadband services – and now they’ll be among the first suburbs in Sydney to get connected to the NBN.

  •  “It’s why I want to see more investment in services and equipment in Mt Druitt Hospital and local GP clinics.

  •  “It’s why I back getting a National Disability Insurance Scheme along with a National School Improvement Plan to help lift support for education in our area.

“But there’s a really stark choice between Labor’s investment in our area and what the Liberals have done here.

“Many voters in Chifley would have voted Liberal for the first time at the last State election, but they were then betrayed by a newly elected State Liberal Government that stripped funding from local schools and hospitals and sacked thousands of employees.

“In the months ahead Mr Abbott should tell Australians what his plans are for the country and our area – we’ve seen the glossy book, we’ve heard the slogan, now give us the detail.

“On one hand they say they’ll cut $70 billion in spending and on the other they declare they’ll deliver services and infrastructure to the nation.

“That’s simply not believable and doesn’t stack up with Labor’s investment in jobs, services and infrastructure for our area.”
