      <p>Chifley Federal MP Ed Husic has recognised the dedication and generosity of local volunteers at the Chifley Volunteers Awards, held this afternoon at the Mt Druitt Hub.</p>
<p>From a field of 18 worthwhile nominees, seven extraordinary individuals were chosen for special recognition.</p>
<p>The ceremony capped off National Volunteer Week, celebrating the commitment of Australia’s 6 million volunteers.</p>
<p>Denis Byrne from Ropes Crossing was named 2013 Chifley Volunteer of the Year for his commitment to volunteering which has inspired others to take part.</p>

      <p>Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese and Member for Chifley Ed Husic today announced the Labor Government will provide $250,000 to fix two dangerous black spots.</p>
<p>The approved projects are:</p>
<p>•    Intersection of the Great Western Highway and Mount Druitt Road at Mount Druitt: $150,000 to install a partial median closure; and
•    Intersection of Wolseley Street and Derby Street at Rooty Hill: $100,000 to install a single lane roundabout.

      <p>Last night’s budget continued funding for the rollout of the biggest road and rail infrastructure program in the nation’s history.</p>
<p>Since 2008, $60 billion has been allocated towards transport infrastructure through the Nation Building Program.</p>
<p>In the next phase of this program, funding will continue for Roads to Recovery and to address Black Spots.</p>
<p>Federal Member for Greenway Michelle Rowland said the allocation of almost $7 million to Blacktown Council over the period 2009-2014 will pay huge dividends for local rate payers.</p>

      <p>Blacktown Federal MPs, Michelle Rowland and Ed Husic, have heralded the 2013 Federal Budget’s provision of $1.8 billion for the WestConnex link as a victory for commuters in Western Sydney.</p>
<p>The project will include capacity improvements on the existing M4 and M5 corridors, extend the M4 to Sydney Airport, and improve access to the Sydney CBD and Port Botany.</p>
<p>Importantly, this Budget funding announcement also imposes a condition that no new tolls are imposed on existing roads that commuters currently use without charge.</p>
