Government Establishes New Filipino Ministerial Consultative Committee

The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Senator Kate Lundy, Member for Chifley, Ed Husic MP, and Member for Werriwa, Laurie Ferguson MP, today announced the Government is inviting members of the Filipino community to join its new Ministerial Consultative Committee.

“The Government is recognising the significant contribution of the Filipino community to Australia by establishing this Ministerial Consultative Committee to open up a direct line of communication to the Government,” Mr Bowen said.

“This new committee will help to foster better people-to-people links between the Filipino community and senior Government ministers, and provide an opportunity to talk about issues of importance to community leaders,” Senator Lundy said.

Mr Husic and Mr Ferguson will co-chair the committee.

“I am pleased to be co-chairing this Ministerial Consultative Committee, which will foster better people-to-people links between the Government and the Filipino community,” Mr Husic said.

“I look forward to meeting with Filipino community leaders and hearing their feedback on how the Government can work to address their concerns,” Mr Ferguson said.

The Ministerial Consultative Committee will comprise approximately 10 members, drawn from Filipino community leaders across Australia.

The committee will meet regularly with the co-chairs and at least twice a year with Ministers Bowen and Lundy.

The Government will also hold an annual forum for the committee to facilitate access to the Prime Minister and other senior Government ministers.

The selection criteria for membership of the committee is included below. For more information, please contact Timothy Chandran in Minister Bowen’s office on (02) 6277 7860.
