Residents of Mt Druitt needing a helping hand will be linked to more intensive services from this week as a trial initiative providing personalised support begins at the local Centrelink Service Centre.

Minister for Human Services Senator Kim Carr said Mt Druitt would be the 28th Case Coordination site providing tailored support to help people get back on their feet.

“Case Coordination aims to match vulnerable people with a range of services that meets their needs,” Senator Kim Carr said.

“Our officers can link people who need assistance with their health, relationships or even money to pay the bills, to support services in their local area.

“This trial is about working with people on their goals and creating a plan to achieve those goals.

“Case Coordination has already proved successful around the country, with our specially trained officers helping connect more than 16,000 people with support organisations in their community.”

Member for Chifley Ed Husic said he was looking forward to seeing people access all the support services available in Mt Druitt.

“This trial will offer more intensive support to those in need in Mt Druitt. Specially trained staff can take the time to hear the complex difficulties a person is facing and create a plan with them to access their services offered in the local community,” Mr Husic said.

Mt Druitt Centrelink Manager Peter Andrews said his team had undergone extensive training to be able to provide the tailored support needed by customers.

“The Case Coordination Team has met with a number of local support organisations to learn about the variety of support services available to people in the region,” Mr Andrews said.

“The opportunity to sit with customers, work with them to identify their life priorities, and then link them to the available support services to achieve their goals will be a valuable experience for the team.”

The Mt Druitt Centrelink Service Centre at 3 Mount Street is open from 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.
