Minister's visit casts spotlight on graffiti and vandalism

Federal Justice Minister, Brendan O’Connor had the opportunity to see first hand, the extent of graffiti and vandalism in Doonside and Rooty Hill when he toured the area this week.

The Minister visited the area at the request of Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic who has been discussing the issue with the Minister’s office for some time.

“I wanted the Minister to come here and talk with local small business owners to hear how this impacts on their ability to do business locally,” Mr Husic said.

“I am keen for the Government to explore options to support local initiatives to stamp out this crime.

“I gave a commitment to local small business owners at the last election that I would help them with this financially crippling issue and I intend to deliver for them.”

Mr Husic convened a roundtable discussion allowing the Minister to meet with Council officers, local Police and community workers to discuss those initiatives that are achieving good outcomes in the area of graffiti prevention.

Mr Husic will continue working with the Minister’s office on this issue.
