MP welcomes the inclusion of Woodcroft and Doonside in NBN

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic has welcomed the announcement yesterday by NBNCo that Woodcroft and Doonside will soon have access to the National Broadband Network.

Mr Husic, who has long advocated for residents of those suburbs to get improved broadband access, is delighted that they have been included in the latest list of suburbs where work is scheduled to commence.

“I've been watching with anticipation as the NBN rollout creeps closer and closer to those suburbs who have long suffered with poor broadband services.” Mr Husic said.

“Last year I brought together residents of Woodcroft and Doonside with representatives of Telstra and NBNCo so that the plight of residents could be highlighted.

“Telstra has been very helpful with short-term solutions for these residents, but the NBN will bring a lasting improvement to services in Woodcroft and Doonside.”

NBNCo expects work to commence some time this year with the last rollout in those suburbs scheduled for September 2013.

“Finally, residents can look to the future with some confidence - that we can drag so many homes and businesses out of the internet 'dark ages'.

"I want to thank residents and businesses for their patience and support of this campaign. We're finally getting somewhere.

"This move to improve broadband can only occur while ever Labor is in Government federally,” Mr Husic said.

“The Liberal Opposition has repeatedly pledged to stop the rollout of the NBN should they win power – which would set us back as a nation and be devastating for Australia’s economy and productivity.”
"We've got to do what we can to make sure we can improve and save local services and infrastructure."
