A petition to save local Trades Training Centres from Tony Abbott’s axe has been launched today by Parliamentary Secretary for Employment, Jason Clare, and Labor Candidate for Chifley, Ed Husic, at Evans High School in Blacktown.
“Tony Abbott’s proposal to cut Trades Training Centres means almost 8,000 local students will miss out on the opportunity to learn a trade,” Jason Clare said.
“We need more apprentices and we’ll start to train them in Trade Training Centres.
“That’s why the Gillard Labor Government will build Trade Training Centres for local schools like Evans High School, Tyndale Christian School, and the Loyola Senior High School.”
Ed Husic said he was fighting to stop Tony Abbott’s cuts, which will mean schools would miss out on the chance to access a Trades Training Centre.
“If Tony Abbott is elected our local Trade Training Centres won’t be built,” Ed Husic said.
“This is bad news for our community and bad news for the country.
“Julia Gillard is committed to giving every child a quality education and preparing kids for jobs by expanding Trades Training Centres in schools.
“If Tony Abbott becomes Prime Minister they won’t be built. That means fewer young people will be able to start an apprenticeship at school.
“My petition calls on Tony Abbott to reverse his decision to cut Trade Training Centres from local schools.
“I want to see local students get the chance to start learning a trade school. Tony Abbott will take that away.”
