Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic is calling for local nominations for the National Disability Awards.
“These awards are a great way to recognise those individuals within the community who are working hard to improve the lives of people with disability,” Mr Husic said.
“It also gives recognition to the remarkable achievements of those role models with disability who are an inspiration to all Australians.”
Nominations are now open for organisations and individuals in seven categories:
- Minister’s Lifelong Achievement Award
- Young Disability Challenge Award
- Business Award
- Local Government Award
- Social Inclusion Award
- Inclusive and Accessible Communities Award
- Health and Wellbeing Award
“The Australian Government is working hard to ensure people with disability have the same opportunities as other Australians to fulfil their potential.” Mr Husic said.
Australian of the Year and Patron of this year’s International Day of People with Disability, Simon McKeon will join finalists at a gala dinner in the Great Hall of Parliament House, Canberra on 22 November 2011 to announce the winners.
