Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic, today welcomed the Gillard Government’s $4.6 million investment over three years to continue 30 support services for vulnerable families and children across Blacktown and Mt Druitt.
As part of the Government’s $1.041 billion Family Support Program, local services have received much needed funding.
“With the Gillard Government’s investment, local service providers are able to continue providing vital support to the local community through services like pre-schools and family relationship centres,” Mr Husic said.
“We know that their work is having a positive impact on the lives of local people.”
Community organisations around the country receive funding to deliver important services such as parenting skills training, relationship counselling and family law services.
“The Government has consulted closely with service providers in developing the new program,” Mr Husic said.
“Local organisations have had their contracts renewed for three years, giving them greater certainty and allowing them to focus less on paperwork and more on providing essential support services.
“The new Family Support Program provides more intensive support for vulnerable and at-risk children and families.
“I welcome the Australian Government’s continued commitment to Chifley in delivering much-needed family support services for the community.”
