Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic today announced that 259 new homes have been built in the Chifley electorate under the Labor Government’s $5.6 billion Social Housing Initiative.
“Developments like these are important in helping to provide a safe and secure place to call home for some of our community’s most vulnerable people,” Mr Husic said.
“Too often, families are forced to sleep in their cars, or with friends and family as the demand for affordable housing peaks.
“Not only do these homes offer stable accommodation, they are also designed to assist residents to remain connected and supported in our community.
“I am proud to be part of a Government committed to giving vulnerable Australians a place to call their own,” Mr Husic said.
“To date, we have delivered more than 6,000 new dwellings in New South Wales, which is the first state or territory to complete the delivery of all its homes funded under the Social Housing Initiative.
Australia is in the midst of a housing shortage, especially affordable housing, and the Gillard Government is working tirelessly to provide vulnerable people with a place to call their own.
The Australian Government’s $5.6 billion investment under the Social Housing Initiative represents the single largest investment in social housing ever undertaken by an Australian Government.
