Nominations have opened for the inaugural Coral McLean Awards which will form part of this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations in Chifley.
Announcing the opening of nominations, Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic praised the work done in our community each day by local women and encouraged the community to nominate outstanding examples of these.
“Celebrations are held right around the world each March to celebrate the achievements of women from all walks of life,” Mr Husic said.
“I’m keen for us to do the same locally – which is why I’ve established the Coral McLean Award.”
“A lot of the hard work that’s carried out is done without regard for recognition – but I think it’s good to say thanks and congratulate the effort.
Known to many as the ‘Mother of Mt Druitt’, Coral last year lost a long battle with cancer.
“Coral touched the lives of so many people locally through the Mt Druitt Reconciliation Group or the Mt Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre, both of which she helped establish, or through her long involvement with Holy Family Education Centre at Emerton.”
Three categories will be awarded including the Coral McLean Award, Chifley Woman of the Year Award and Young Chifley Woman of the Year Award (18-28 years old).
Nominations close 27 February 2012 and the winners will be announced at the Chifley Women’s Breakfast on Tuesday 27 March at the Mt Druitt Hub.
Nominations need to be made on the official nomination form which can be obtained from Ed Husic’s office (02 9625 4344) or downloaded here Coral Mclean Award Form
