Almost 4,000 petitions from Mt Druitt residents have been presented today by Chifley Federal MP Ed Husic to Health Minister Tanya Plibersek.
Mr Husic said this was the culmination of a very long campaign which he has fought since having the baton passed to him by former MP Roger Price.
“From the time I announced I was standing for election in Chifley in 2010, securing an MRI licence for Mt Druitt Hospital has been a priority,” Mr Husic said.
“I am delighted at the enormous response and I want to thank the many thousands of local people who have taken up my call to petition the Federal Health Minister.”
Mr Husic and State MP for Mt Druitt Richard Amery launched the latest petition in June this year in order that Minister Plibersek could hear first-hand from those affected.
“The Minister’s door has always been open to me and I thank her for taking the time to receive these petitions,” Mr Husic said.
“I believe we have presented a compelling case – given our distance from Blacktown and Nepean Hospitals as well as the reliance by many locals on public transport.
“The matter is now in the hands of the Minister and we can only wait and see if we’ve been successful.”
People who have not yet returned their petitions can still send them reply paid and they will be passed on to the Minister.
