Nominations for the 2012 Chifley Sports Awards have been extended until Friday 19 October.
The Chifley Sports Awards recognises the outstanding sporting performances, achievements and contributions by members of our local community in the following fields:
• Individual or team achievement, such as national or state selection, regional/state/national competition success, or high level single performance (e.g. Australian or state record);
• Community sport contribution by individuals, including coaches, referees/umpires and administrators with at least five years’ service;
• Contribution to sport by schools, community groups (e.g. Lions, Rotary) or media organisations to a particular sporting event, facility or for continuous support over a minimum of two years.
Federal Chifley MP Ed Husic said our community has a rich sporting culture and this is an opportunity to celebrate this and recognise sporting participation.
“The Chifley electorate was well represented recently in London with the likes of Olympian Beki Lee from Mount Druitt and Paralympians Kylie Gauci from Rooty Hill and Jayme Richardson-Paris from Quakers Hill,” Mr Husic said.
“I have no doubt that there are future sporting stars living in our community and with the necessary recognition and support will make it to the world stage.”
Nominees must live in the Chifley electorate and nominations have to be received by 5pm Friday 19 October. The awards will be presented at a special ceremony in November 2012.
