POSITIVE LIVING & LIFESTYLE FORUM INSPIRES CHIFLEY'S SENIORS

04 May 2015

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic hosted his annual Positive Living & Lifestyle Forum for over 150 of the communitys seniors today.
The forum was a free, informative event aimed at helping seniors and pensioners with the challenges theyre facing today.
I sometimes find that people in the Chifley electorate arent always aware of all of services available to them, and the forum is aimed at addressing that, Mr Husic said.
With the upcoming Budget and the Abbott Governments planned cuts to the pension, were trying to arm pensioners with the information theyll need to take care of themselves.
We gathered a variety of speakers including the Department of Human Services who explained changes to the age pensions; the Mt Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre who spoke about wills, powers of attorney and guardianship; Meals on Wheels who spoke about their services; and Heart Moves who taught seniors some helpful exercises they can do at home.
Seniors are significant members of our society and it was a pleasure to spend time with them and to provide them with much needed assistance.
Each of the speakers had different stations that were available to attendees during the entirety of the forum so they could address seniors individual concerns.
The forum proved to be a great success with those attending enjoying morning tea and some light-hearted, community fellowship.
