Community groups with a great idea to help strengthen and improve local neighbourhoods have a chance to get funding to turn those ideas into reality.
Federal MP Ed Husic today announced the opening of the applications for the Stronger Communities Grants program in Chifley.
Mr Husic said that the program provided $150,000 per year for two years to fund small capital projects which deliver social benefits to our area.
“While the Abbott Government’s funding cuts have put pressure on local groups, at least there is a chance for some to access funds for worthwhile community projects,” Mr Husic said.
“A consultation committee will be set up to review project submissions and ensure that the funding delivers the best possible outcomes for our community.
“Groups applying for funds need to be aware that they have to be willing to match – dollar for dollar – any program funding that they’re seeking.
“Grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 will be available and – according to program guidelines – projects such as fitting out a men’s shed or creating a bike path will be considered.”
