MT DRUITT POOL HOSTS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

24 May 2016

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic and State Member for Mt Druitt Edmond Atalla joined forces on Saturday to officially open the NSW RSL Youth Council 55th Annual Youth Clubs State Swimming Championships at Mt Druitt Swimming Centre.
We are absolutely thrilled that the NSW RSL Youth Council chose Mt Druitt to host the championships. This is a win for the area and demonstrates how important these facilities are to the community, Mr Husic said.
Mr Atalla and I were happy to be here to cheer on our local Rooty Hill RSL Youth Swimming Club, an impressive group of athletes that work hard to represent our area proudly.
The pool facility was packed with young swimmers from across NSW who had gathered to compete with other RSL Youth clubs in the championships, a far cry from the fate of the pool a few years prior.
Only three years ago, Liberal Councilors voted to close down the Mt Druitt Swimming Pool. Luckily we campaigned hard against their decision and local residents came together to petition the pools closure, Mr Atalla said.
Now this facility can be enjoyed not only by the local community, but also be an attraction to visitors.
