ED HUSIC MP

FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CHIFLEY

KITCHEN UPGRADE TO SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY TO HELP OTHERS

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic today announced a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will contribute $120,000 to upgrade kitchen facilities at the Rooty Hill Masjid, run by the Islamic Association of Western Suburbs Sydney (IAWSS).

This election commitment will enable IAWSS to undertake a major renovation of the mosque’s existing kitchen to meet modern commercial kitchen standards.

As the Mt Druitt area has grown, demand for the mosque’s community programs has increased, including for its youth programs, women’s activities and community support.

The new facilities will help members better serve the local Chifley community, preparing meals for functions, distributing food to the homeless and those in need, along with hosting community events.

The election commitment is another way a re-elected Albanese Labor Government is helping local communities access the services they need, building a strong future for all Australians.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to the Hon. Ed Husic MP, Federal Member for Chifley:

“The current Rooty Hill Mosque kitchen facilities are outdated and not fit for purpose.

“A new commercial kitchen will support the mosque to help others and bring the community together.

“Kitchens often form a critical part of charity and fundraising support undertaken by community groups, and I can’t wait to see what our local families will be able to do with these upgraded facilities.

“I’m always inspired by seeing migrant communities who’ve set up a new life in Australia, then rally together to help other Australians in need. It’s a real credit to them.”
