LABOR WILL BOOST FUNDING FOR MOUNT DRUITT COMMUNITY LEGAL CENTRE

21 June 2016

A Shorten Labor Government will ensure the Mount Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre has the resources it needs to keep its doors open.
As part of the $43 million package for frontline legal services, Member for Chifley, Ed Husic, today announced the allocation of funding to the Centre, located in Rooty Hill.
The funding will provide $100,000 per year with a total of $300,000 over three years.
Labor knows how important the Mount Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre is, Mr Husic said.
Its there for local residents when they are often at their most vulnerable victims of domestic violence and financial scams are among the most common of their clients.
A big bank account shouldnt be the only way to get crucial legal advice the Mount Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre provides a vital service to locals.
This funding will help ensure the Centre can continue to provide their valuable services after the Abbott-Turnbull Governments disastrous cuts.
The Liberals have done nothing but attack legal services since the day they came to office. This is not right and Labor will address it.
Malcolm Turnbull and George Brandis have cut $52 million from Community Legal Centres, Legal Aid Commissions and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services.
Thanks to the damaging cuts, 160,000 people were turned away from Community Legal Centres last year alone. Only a Shorten Labor Government will ensure the people of Chifley have access to legal services in times of need.
