RECORD TURNOUT FOR ANNUAL SENIORS FORUM

25 May 2016

A record crowd turned out in Mount Druitt this week to take part in Chifley MP Ed Husics annual Positive Living & Lifestyle Seniors Forum.
The forum held on Monday at the Mount Druitt Hub is a free annual event that helps seniors and pensioners get up-to-date information regarding the programs that assist them in their day to day lives.
We had over 120 local seniors attend the forum making it our biggest yet, Mr Husic said.
I run this initiative because I find that some people arent always aware of all of services available to help them and make their lives easier.
And locals also use it as a great chance for a cuppa and catch up with friends.
The forum basically delivers local seniors a one-stop shop for help and can also provide others with an update on programs or services that may have changed.
With the Turnbull Governments harsh changes to pensions and retrospective changes to superannuation, were trying to arm pensioners with the information theyll need to take care of themselves.
A variety of information booths were set up at the Hub, where local seniors were able to receive advice and help from a variety of organisations.
Participating organisations included: the Department of Human Services; the Mt Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre, Meals on Wheels, Blacktown Community Transport, Carlisle Avenue GP, Blacktown City Council Aged Planner, SydWest Multicultural Services; Mt Druitt Neighbour Aid; and Bright Sky.
